Quick Overview: The Toyota Vanguard
The third generation of RAV4 vehicles was released in two versions; a short wheelbase model and a long-wheelbase model. Being a member of the third generation of Toyota RAV4 vehicles, the Vanguard made a staggering breakthrough in the automobile market. The concept was generally welcomed by SUV lovers and instantly climbed to be among the most sought after Toyota SUVs.
It is also the first generation of RAV4 vehicles to be offered in both regular and extended versions. Essentially, this means that the vehicles came with versions that had the spare wheel at the rear and other versions that didn’t have those. The Vanguard is also still available in both four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants, although most countries actually offer the all-wheel-drive version.
The Vanguard also got a little bit of a redesign back in 2009, with updates including a new engine, a redesigned front end, and a back end with a slight change. Sadly, the Vanguard was discontinued by Toyota in 2013, with the company opting instead to go with the Harrier XU60.
What you’ll love about the Toyota Vanguard
Fuel Economy: If you are the type of driver who is more concerned about the ability of the vehicle to hold and make use of fuel (and considering the price of fuel, we all are!), then you’ll be glad to know that the Toyota Vanguard actually has one of the best gas mileage ratings for a non-hybrid SUV with all-wheel drive.
Interior: The interior of the vehicle is actually pretty admirable as well. The Vanguard comes with much more rear seating space than a lot of SUVs its size. The second seats are even able to split, side backward or forwards (depending on what you want) in order to provide for more cargo space. The trunk cover also has quite a lot of additional cargo space.
Handling: While on the road, you’ll feel more like driving a tall car than you’re driving an SUV with this one. The vehicle comes with easy handling (especially considering its size!) and it is also pretty agile. The vehicle also has an incredible ability to absorb shock, which means you will be able to enjoy your ride without feeling the brunt of potholes and other road imperfections. You get proper front visibility, thanks to large side mirrors that are able to make up for the thick rear pillars.
Safety: As regards safety, the Vanguard provides standard Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRAC).
What you might not like about the Toyota Vanguard
Front Seats: If you’re the type of person who takes long trips, you might not like the fact that the front seat doesn’t provide much comfort for long trips.
Interior Materials: While the interior compartment of this vehicle definitely has a lot of space, the materials seem rather low quality, they’re prone to wear and tear easily, and there’s a high chance that you might be spending on replacements sooner rather than later.
